Clayton Wins Contract To Build Seven 40 Tonne Diesel Locomotives
Following the successful contract award to manufacture seven CD40, 40 tonne diesel locomotives, Clayton Equipment has started to deliver them to site. Working in conjunction with the client, Clayton has designed the CD40 locomotive to match their unique specification and performance criteria.
A significant benefit of these locomotives will be their Euro Stage IV emission compliant engines; a first for the UK tunnelling industry and possibly the world.
When compared to alternatives on the market, the new locomotives will lead the way in addressing the health and safety compliance requirements of the tunnelling industry, reducing both the environmental impact of the equipment and the ventilation operating costs.
Track testing has been completed and can be seen in the video below.
The Clayton CD40 locomotives will enable the customer to complete the works within a tunnel under London. This will include the installation of track, overhead catenary, ventilation fans, walkways, drainage pumps, fire mains, and lighting throughout the entire tunnel length.
