Yesterday Clayton Equipment hosted over 20 University of Birmingham students. The objective of the visit was to offer them a deeper understanding of the manufacturing process and integration of locomotives.

The itinerary for the students involved a company presentation, a workshop tour followed by a Q&A session.

Clive Hannaford, Managing Director at Clayton Equipment with his in-depth knowledge of the engineering and manufacturing processes provided an insight to the solutions and unique issues that Clayton Equipment address during the design, development and manufacture regarding battery powered locomotives, hybrid locomotives and Diesel conversions. Other topics covered, involved weight management and chassis designs, highlighting the very impressive turnaround time from start to end.

The students commented on how the visit had exceeded their expectations.

Aneel Bhudi, Engineering Student at University of Birmingham said, “This has to be the best tour I have been on with the University as I learned a lot of relevant issues relating to our degree but also with aspects outside of our syllabus. It was very insightful and Clive’s ability to condense and clearly explain the solutions produced by Clayton Equipment really made the tour enjoyable. Myself and my colleagues genuinely enjoyed ourselves and left extremely satisfied”.

Clayton Equipment is proud of its heritage and world leading project solutions in the locomotive sector and the students visit provided the opportunity to showcase the company at its best.

We look forward to working with more universities in highlighting the unique aspect of our business.
