Clayton Equipment Ltd shunts into electric future

A Class above…. Next generation shunting locomotives. The first of fifteen innovative Clayton Equipment emission free, Class 18 hybrid+ CBD90 locomotives, has been delivered to Chasewater Railway for testing for our customer Beacon Rail Leasing.

The 90-tonne Bo-Bo locomotive, is self contained, with onboard batteries that can be charged through either a three-phase electric supply or an onboard diesel engine which meets European Union Stage V emissions standards.

“This unique agreement is a significant milestone in the company’s history and provides a major growth opportunity for Clayton Equipment,” says Clayton Equipment Managing Director, Clive Hannaford. “Beacon Rail has extensive rail asset expertise which will help ensure the two companies maximise the potential to supply our customer base with sustainable, low-emissions, environmentally-compliant equipment”.

It’s an extremely busy but very exciting time at Clayton Equipment. The second Clayton hybrid CBD90 + locomotive for Beacon Rail Leasing is well underway and the frame for the third locomotive has just been delivered.
