Clayton Equipment were delighted to welcome a visit from over 20 members of the Steeple Grange Light Railway on 7th February, 2014.
Established in 1985, the Steeple Grange Light Railway is an 18-inch gauge line, located near Wirksworth in Derbyshire. It is built on
the trackbed of a branch of the old Cromford and High Peak Railway, which is now known as the High Peak Trail. Motive power is provided by
ex-industrial diesel, battery-electric and petrol locomotives, and passengers are carried in an old National Coal Board manrider.
In November 2012, Clayton Equipment accepted an order from
Glencore Xstrata, one
of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies. The brief, to
design and deliver three 25t Battery locomotives to replace their existing trolley
locomotives utilised at one of their Canadian mining operations.
The Fraser Morgan Nickel mine, located in the Sudbury area of Northen Ontario,
Canada, has been mining nickel-copper ores since 1929, and the locomotives are used
to transport mined material for processing.
Clayton Equipment was pleased to rescue one of our locomotives following an accident which threatened to make
the machine an economic write off. The locomotive was extensively damaged whilst stationary and a four month
long programme was implemented to return it to England, refurbish and repair the equipment to its original standard,
and despatch the finished product back to Russia.
